PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

The MSc Programme ‘Wireless Communication Systems’, aims to give students a general understanding of all aspects of cellular and broadband wireless communication systems. The Programme covers wireless design techniques, system architectures, dimensioning, security topics, applications and services. The Programme also offers the specialised knowledge required, including theory, technologies, and relevant design techniques, as a prerequisite for designing cellular (e.g. GSM/UMTS/LTE) and small, medium and large-scale wireless broadband (e.g. 802 based) systems.

Students will have the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge gained from the Programme modules, not only through their final year Master Thesis, but also through specialised laboratory modules. It has to be noted that the physical presence of the students is not required during the laboratory modules. The laboratory modules are assignment-based and they are carried out by the students remotely through their personal computers. During these modules, students will design and deploy realistic wireless systems, through wireless design simulators, design and test localisation/tracking algorithms for Location Based Services (LBS), and experiment with security applications through their own computer.

As part of the Programme, students will also be taught generic and domain-specific research techniques and will be able to develop these techniques and the specific skills required for successfully completing their final year MSc thesis project.

The minimum requirement for admission to a postgraduate programme is an undergraduate degree from an accredited Higher Education Institution.
